Thalam Therapy

What is Thalam Therapy?

Thalam is a traditional Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure where medicated herbal paste is applied to the forehead or crown of the head, primarily over the area of the Ajna Chakra (third eye). This therapy is highly effective in calming the mind, improving mental clarity, and treating various neurological and psychological conditions.
The term Thalam is derived from Sanskrit and Malayalam, referring to the application of herbs to the head to regulate brain function and hormonal balance.

How Thalam Therapy is Performed

Preparation of Herbal Paste

A thick paste is prepared using herbs such as Brahmi, Amla, Ashwagandha, Sandalwood, or Vetiver, mixed with oils or buttermilk depending on the condition.

Application

The paste is carefully applied to the center of the forehead or the crown (top) of the head, often shaped into a small circular mound. In some cases, a small depression or well is made in the paste to hold medicated oil, ghee, or herbal juice.

Resting Time

The paste is left on the head for 20 to 45 minutes, during which the client relaxes in a calm, peaceful setting. A headband or cloth may be used to secure the paste.

Post-Therapy

The paste is gently removed, and the head is cleaned with warm water or followed by mild steam therapy (Swedana) for better absorption and relaxation.
