Takradhara

What is Takradhara?

Takradhara is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy in which medicated buttermilk (takra) is gently poured in a continuous stream over the forehead or entire body, especially over the head (Shirodhara). It is a cooling and calming therapy used to balance the Pitta and Kapha doshas, and it is especially beneficial for mental stress, insomnia, skin disorders, and certain neurological issues.
“Takra” = Buttermilk, “Dhara” = Stream or continuous flow. So, Takradhara literally means the streaming of buttermilk on the body or forehead for therapeutic purposes.
